There are five points of the gates that correspond to the unity of the body and the spirit. In traditional oriental medicine, the notion of harmonization of the body and the mind is very important, but especially the spirit, which plays a determining role because we do not see it, but it has a direct influence on our body.
The spirit of the heart deals with the joy of living, 喜-yorokobi in Japanese, which has a direct correspondence with the organ of the heart. If one is happy, or satisfied by their existence, or filled with joy, then the heart is very relaxed and its operation is optimal. The point that is linked with the unity of the spirit of the heart is at the point of the meridian of heart number 7, Shinmon – gate of the spirit.
The spirit of the liver takes care of the feeling of anger, or bitterness, 怒-okoru in Japanese, which has a direct connection with the organ of the liver and if one is all the time angry, it makes the energy go to the head and it will raise our blood pressure, so to calm down you need the harmony of the feeling and the body. It lies on the meridian point of the liver number 14, Kimon – cycle gate.
The spirit of reflection, 思-omoi in Japanese, is related to the organ of the spleen-pancreas and if one is obsessed by the thought of ruminating something all the time, it can unbalance the spleen-pancreas, so one must work out the spleen-pancreas point which lies at the meridian of the spleen-pancreas number 11, Kimon – winnower gate, represented in Japanese differently from number 14 also called Kimon.
The spirit of sadness or sorrow, 悲-kanashii in Japanese, is related to the lungs, so if we are always sad, it makes our vital energy disappear, so we must work the point of the lungs which is at the lung meridian number 2, Unmon – clouds gate.
When the spirit of kidneys, 恐-kowai in Japanese, becomes very anxious, where we are all the time and afraid of all that we do, it means that the organ of the kidneys is unbalanced or that the energy of the kidneys is weak, therefore we must work the point of the kidneys which is at the meridian of the kidneys number 21, Yumon – dark gate.
So these five points of the gates help to improve the harmonization of our different feelings and the corresponding organs.
